The Capital City Wind Band is for musicians of all ages and levels, approximately from grade 3–6. The band enjoys performing a wide range of music from classical standards to great film and pop music.

This band is suited to players of all ages who want to enjoy playing and making music in a fun and supportive environment and for those getting back into playing after a long break from their instrument.

The band’s rehearsal season is from February until early December with roughly about four performances in the Wellington region plus annual participation in the New Zealand Concert Band Association National Festival.

Wellington City Concert Band

The band plays a dynamic and varied programme each year and is Wellington’s largest community symphonic band with over fifty musicians. Whilst fun and social, the band works hard to achieve excellence in playing with many semi-pro musicians attracted to join as well as the top school aged wind, brass and percussion players.

The band’s rehearsal season is from February until early December with roughly about four performances in the Wellington region plus annual participation in the New Zealand Concert Band Association National Festival.

Entry is by audition and an 80% attendance at practices and concerts is the expectation for those wishing to join the band.

David Codd

Capital City Wind Band
David Codd is a New Zealand-born horn player and pianist. Originally from New Plymouth, New Zealand, David undertook a Bachelor of Music with Honours in Classical Performance Collaborative Piano under Dr Jian Liu at Victoria University of Wellington, as well as secondary studies in French horn with Samuel Jacobs and Sebastian Dunn.

David maintains a busy schedule of performances as a collaborative pianist, conductor, and horn player. As well as being a member of the Royal New Zealand Air Force Band horn section, David performs with the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra, Orchestra Wellington, and the Dunedin Symphony Orchestra. As a pianist, David has a particular passion for collaborative work, enjoying performing with artists from NZSO and Orchestra Wellington.

When David isn’t immersed in music, he enjoys working as an after-school care supervisor and can be found on any of Wellington’s beautiful trails and walkways.
Shannon Pittaway

Wellington City Concert Band
Shannon Pittaway began playing the cornet at age six with guidance from his father, Wayne, and grew up playing in Salvation Army brass bands. 

Shannon holds a Bachelor of Music Performance from the Victorian College of the Arts and a Master of Music from Northwestern University in Chicago. Following his studies, he became a fellow of the Pacific Music Festival Orchestra in Japan and later with the Pacific Music Festival Alumni Orchestra, which celebrated the 20th anniversary of Leonard Bernstein's inaugural concert at the festival.

Shannon is a founding member of the Australian Brass Quintet and the Australian World Orchestra. He has received numerous awards and grants, including an honorary fellowship “in recognition of his contribution and achievements in orchestral world music” from Melbourne University. 

While living in Singapore, Shannon served on the faculty of the Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music and was a Singapore National Youth Orchestra tutor. He joined the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra in 2015.
